amegy bankIn 1990 a man named Walter Johnson had a vision of better ways to do banking in Texas. Some of his ideas and goals included a bank that was fully committed to Texas businesses, one that relied on local decisions and a service that was honored. He wanted the bank to be large enough to offer services and products of larger banks, but with a small town feel. Walter, a man of determination, convinced 135 Texans to make an investment to help establish this dream bank. After raising 13.5 million in new capital, he began building a management team. Also, the name of a struggling bank, Northwest Crossing, was changed to Southwest Bank of Texas. The new bank opened in February of 1990 with one branch.

As the bank’s success grew, the name no longer fit. In early 2005, the name was changed to Amegy Bank of Texas. In late 2005, Amegy Bank of Texas became a member of the Zions Bancorporation collection of banks. Today, Amegy Bank is know as The ‘A’ Bank because they strive to earn an A from their customers and communities.

Amegy Women’s Initiative was founded in 2004. This group was created to enhance the growth and success of women. It is aimed at providing women with opportunities for education, personal development and networking. Through many activities such as seminars, tours and luncheons, Amegy Women’s Initiative provides women with information necessary to achieve their goals. Weather the goals are of personal nature or financial, opportunities are presented to help women achieve these goals.

Amegy Women’s Initiative founded the Young Professional Women sub committee in 2007 to help the younger women connect with senior women within the bank. Thru mentoring and casual group outings, the Initiative helps to form bonds.
